Pain

This is why Jack covers the right side of his face, because underneath that is a persistence remnant of his humanity, and even though he is dead and has the devil's heart pumping fallen angel blood in his veins...every time he sheds a tear it burn at his flesh. It the only way he feels pain after he dies.
